Renatha Kato is a Research Officer and Bioethicist at the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) Headquarters. She holds a Master of Bioethics from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) and a Bachelor of Environmental Health Sciences with IT from Ruaha Catholic University, an academic background that provides a strong interdisciplinary foundation for her work in health research and ethics.
Before joining NIMR in 2020, Renatha worked as an Environmental Health Officer at Bukoba Municipal Council, where she gained valuable hands-on experience in public health at the district level. During her internship, she also served as a tutor at the Ngudu School of Environmental Health Sciences and worked as an Environmental Health Officer at Shinyanga Regional Referral Hospital, Kahama City Council, and Msalala District Council in Shinyanga Region.
Renatha has contributed extensively to public health initiatives, ethical oversight, responsible conduct of research training, and health systems strengthening in Tanzania. Her experience includes teaching, coordinating environmental health activities, and participating in research oversight visits, workshops, and ethics training programs nationwide. She has received training in clinical research ethics, regulatory standards, and emerging study designs, enabling her to support protocol development, ethical review, and governance. She has also contributed to national efforts to strengthen ethics guidelines, tools, and digital oversight systems. Alongside her published work on the readability of informed consent forms in BMC Medical Ethics, she has contributed to several other research ethics outputs, some of which are currently under review.
