Dr. Mbazi Senkoro

PRINCIPAL RESEARCH SCIENTIST

Dr. Mbazi Senkoro is a Principal Research Scientist at the National Institute for Medical Research – Muhimbili Medical Research Centre, with over 18 years of experience in epidemiology and public health. He holds a Master’s degree in International Health (Epidemiology) and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology—both from the University of Bergen, Norway—and a background in medicine (MD).

Dr. Senkoro has led significant research on disease transmission in both urban and rural settings, with a focus on data-driven approaches to disease prevention, health equity, and emergency preparedness. His research portfolio spans infectious and non-communicable diseases, including COVID-19, tuberculosis, HIV, foodborne illnesses, and more, contributing to numerous publications in leading scientific journals.

He is a certified Trainer of Trainers (ToT) for the Data to Policy (D2P) program, aimed at bridging the gap between research and public health policy, and for the Structured Operational Research and Training Initiative (SORT IT), which supports countries in becoming data- and action-rich to improve healthcare delivery. Dr. Senkoro also serves as an academic supervisor for Master’s and Ph.D. students, fostering the next generation of public health researchers.
