Mr. Saidi Mwinjuma Mfaume is a Senior Health Laboratory Scientist with 35 years of experience in laboratory diagnostic activities. Over the years, he has achieved several milestones, including participation in clinical trials, two Drug Resistance Surveys on anti-TB drugs (2007 and 2017), and the Prevalence Survey of Tuberculosis in Tanzania. He holds a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences from Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (1994), a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology and Laboratory Sciences from Sokoine University of Agriculture (2011), and a Master of Science in Molecular Biology from the University of Dar es Salaam (2023). With over 15 years of experience as a Laboratory In-charge, Mr. Mfaume has coordinated laboratory activities for research-oriented and surveillance initiatives in TB laboratories. He has attended various professional short courses, including the International Tuberculosis Course (2004) in Arusha, Advanced Course on AFB Smear Microscopy (2008) in Kampala, and training in External Quality Assurance (2008) in Tanga. Additionally, he has received advanced training in molecular diagnostics such as Xpert MTB/RIF and participated in Good Laboratory and Clinical Practice courses across several countries, including Tanzania, Egypt, and South Africa. Mr. Mfaume is an active member of the Scientific and Management Committee of the Muhimbili Medical Research Centre, the Quality Assurance Committee of the Public Health Laboratory Board, and the Tender Board of the Muhimbili Medical Research Centre. He also serves as the GeneXpert focal person, coordinating molecular diagnostic methods recommended by WHO, and as a trainer of trainers in tuberculosis diagnostic methods.
