OPEN CALL FOR NatHREC Reviewers

The National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), a Parastatal Organization established by an Act of Parliament No. 23 of 1979 [CAP.59, R.E.2002] under the Ministry of Health, is mandated with carrying out, controlling, coordinating, registering, monitoring and promoting health research in Tanzania.
NIMR’s functions related to registering and monitoring health research, including ethical review and approval of health research in Tanzania are coordinated by the Medical Research Coordinating Committee (MRCC) through its sub-Committee, the National Health Research Ethics Review Committee (NatHREC)
NIMR engages technical experts to support the NatHREC in reviewing applications for ethics clearance; and to widen the pool of reviewers, NIMR is advertising an open call for new reviewers to enhance its capacity to process applications for research ethics approvals.
The reviewers are expected to ensure that submitted applications adhere to ethical and scientific principles of good research practice and that these scientific and ethical principles are considered in the protocol for implementation during the conduct of health research in order to protect the health and rights of individuals in different social and cultural settings in Tanzania.
Reviewers provide scientific, technical, ethical and financial review of research projects under consideration by the NatHREC.
The call is for reviewers with specific medical professions as well as methodological expertise (e.g. biostatistics, disease modelling, genomics etc.,)

QUALIFICATIONS – Experienced senior and mid-career researchers (previous experience in reviewing research proposals will be valuable)

OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS – Regular access to a computer is required because all review work is completed online, and communications primarily take place via email.
Reviewers will need to avail themselves time to review. The reviewer will be required to review at least two protocols per month.
Reviewers must adhere to the turnaround times.
Reviewers will receive a small compensation for their time as a show of appreciation.
All reviewers will be required to sign a confidentiality, conflict of interest and non-disclosure agreement.

Note: Not all reviewers will be contacted at the same time. This is a rolling call. Reviewers will be accommodated on a rolling basis.
