Dr. Lucas Matemba

Dr Lucas Matemba is a Medical Doctor and Epidemiologist, currently a Principal Research Scientist at the National Institute for Medical Research, Dodoma Research Centre, Tanzania. He received his MD degree from Volgograd State Medical Academy, Russia, and subsequently obtained an MPH degree from Muhimbili University Health and Allied Sciences in Tanzania, a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Edinburgh, UK, and a postdoctoral fellow in Epidemiology and One Health from Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania.

 

Dr Matemba’s research experience includes designing and managing several field-oriented research projects. A large part of his research directed towards the control of infectious diseases paying a particular attention on neglected zoonoses. His work has significantly contributed to the designing strategies for elimination of NTDs. He now works very close with National NTD Control Program and most of his recent work engaged in operational and implementation research and policy focusing on other neglected zoonoses and snakebite envenoming in Tanzania, he has extensively published his work in peer review journals.
