Dr. Emanuel Peter Lyimo is a Senior Research Scientist and Centre Manager of NIMR Mabibo Traditional Medicine Research Centre. Before being appointed Centre Manager. Dr. Lyimo was serving as acting Centre Manager of NIMR Mabibo and was responsible for all of the Centre’s scientific and administrative operations. Prior to assuming the management role, Dr. Lyimo spent more than 11 years with NIMR as a research scientist where he led research teams responsible for designing and implementing health research projects.
He earned a PhD in natural products from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (Uganda) in 2021. Before his doctoral degree, Dr. Lyimo attended the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science (India) where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and later joined Manipal University (India) for his Master’s degree in Public Health (Epidemiology) in 2011. Dr. Lyimo has a particular research interest in the standardization of herbal medicines and ethnopharmacology and has published in this area. Currently Dr. Lyimo is leading research team with research focus on developing natural products for erectile dysfunction, managing type 2 diabetes mellitus using medicinal plants and developing inventory of most common medicinal plant in Tanzania
