Dr. Denna Mkwashapi

RESEARCH OFFICER

Denna Michael Mkwashapi is a seasoned researcher affiliated with the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) and serves as an honorary lecturer of epidemiology and biostatistics at the Catholic University College of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS) in Tanzania. His contributions to epidemiological research and teaching, particularly in the areas of HIV treatment and the management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), have garnered significant scientific input within the research and academic community.

Mkwashapi’s notable work includes collaborative HIV/AIDS and HIV/AIDS-related analyses published in over 60 peer-reviewed journal articles. Throughout his career, he has received various sponsorships and funding from prestigious organisations, reflecting his commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and improving health outcomes for people living with HIV and other vulnerable populations.

Mkwashapi’s contributions remain important in shaping public health policies and practices, positioning him as a mid-career researcher in the enduring battle against HIV/AIDS and chronic diseases across Tanzania, Africa and beyond. He earned his medical degree (MD) from the University of Dar es Salaam in 2006 and then pursued advanced studies, receiving a Master of Science (MSc) in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in 2013, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in Epidemiology from Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMUCo) of Tumaini Makumira University in Moshi, Tanzania, in 2024.
