Dr. Celine Mandara

PRINCIPAL RESEARCH OFFICER

Dr. Celine Mandara is the Principal Research Officer and a permanent employee of the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) currently based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Celine is the Co-Principal Investigator of the second phase of the study on Molecular Surveillance of Malaria in Mainland Tanzania. She holds a Medical degree with Masters in Clinical Research and a PhD in biomedical sciences from the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College. She participated in several researches on TB, HIV, and malaria. Celine was among the WHO Career Research and Development Fellows based at Sigma-tau Pharmaceutiche Spa in Rome Italy for one year (Nov 2011- Dec 2012).

Dr. Mandara has been participating in studies on therapeutic efficacy and safety of antimalarial drugs under the National Malaria Control Program since 2013 to date as the study physician and a co-investigator.  She has been a member of the Data Safety Monitoring Committee for a trial on Cardio–safety of dihydroartemisinin Piperaquine in pregnant women in Tanzania from 2016 and is currently a WHO temporary advisor from 2012 to date. Her research interests are in molecular epidemiology of malaria parasites focusing on therapeutic efficacy and safety studies and longitudinal surveillance of asymptomatic individuals and monitoring molecular markers of drug resistance.
