Hillary Sebukoto is a Medical Doctor working as a Research Assistant at the National Institute for Medical Research – Tanga since April 2020. He holds a degree in Doctor of Medicine from Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMUCo) class of 2011 to 2016. He currently is in his final year pursuing a Master in Applied Epidemiology from the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS). Prior to his current position at NIMR, he worked as a Medical Doctor (general medical practitioner) at Tanga Regional Referral Hospital from July 2018 to March 2020. At this hospital, he attended both outpatients and inpatients from various departments including Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Psychiatry and Emergency Medicine. Moreover, from November 2016 to November 2017, he attended internship training at Amana Regional Referral Hospital in Dar es Salaam. As an Intern Doctor, he attended clients in various departments of Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Casualty, CTC (HIV/AIDS CARE AND Treatment) and participated in operational researches for both clinical and public health services. As a research assistant with NIMR, he has worked on different research studies such as Intermittent Preventive Treatment of malaria for school children IPTsc study, NOVARTIS non-interventional study and Epilepsy (EPiNA) study. His roles vary from research physician, preparing and submitting study Protocols to Ethical committees, working with physicians, pharmacists, lab staff, the sponsor, potential and enrolled subjects. He also works closely with study subjects/participants, explaining about the study and answering their questions and concerns as well as checking in with them regularly to monitor compliance with the study guidelines, collecting, managing and maintaining all study related paperwork and correspondence while adhering to guidelines and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) to ensure study procedures are carried out in accordance with international and national standards.  He also has been involved in different outbreaks investigation for diseases of national and international concerns such as Leptospirosis in Ruangwa – Lindi region and Measles outbreak in Handeni – Tanga region.
