Godfather Kimaro

  • A Tanzanian clinic researcher with over 18 years’ experience and is currently employed by National Institute for Medical Research in Tanzania.
  • Involved in a number of projects related to HIV, TB, mother and child, and non-communicable diseases in Tanzania. As part of PhD, studying ways in which antiretroviral therapy in Africa should be organised for HIV-infected people who present with advanced disease. This includes evaluating novel approaches to screening for tuberculosis and cryptococcal meningitis, the two major killers of HIV-infected people, and the costs associated with delivering different aspects of HIV care.
  • Currently the country (Tanzania) Principal investigator of the multicounty implementation research grant funded by EDCTP aiming at translating research into policy and practice through scaling-up Evidence-Based Multiple focus Integrated Intensified TB Screening in the East Africa region. Has undertaken additional base, mid and endline evaluations in Tanzania evaluating health initiatives to inform future planning, monitoring and performance management.
  • Undertook a consultancy for UNICEF in Tanzania, which aimed to determine the knowledge, attitudes and practices in relation to preventing COVID-19 among Tanzanians. The main focus was on the possible drivers and barriers for COVID-19 spread and prevention as well as how to provide home based care for COVID-19 patients, suspects and their contacts. The study was conducted in 2020 in seven regions of the Tanzania mainland and in Zanzibar (in both Unguja and Pemba). Has a total of 39 publications in peer reviewed journals
